Banned Books Week 2019

Book banning is back in full force, with an unprecedented number of challenges over the past year. The impact that this will have on the educational experience of students across the country will be significant, as children are censored from material that adults disagree with, losing out on valuable conversations and exposure to controversial topics that will only teach students to think more critically and be better citizens as a whole. It also negatively impacts teachers and their ability to teach because of changing lesson plans and narrowing the scope which they can talk about.

In order to make sure children have the best possible education, it is essential that we fight back against these challenges by organizing a public education campaign, fighting in the courts, and running for elected positions that shape curriculum in schools.

On this site you can navigate the various tabs to see the current issue explained in more depth, the history of the issue, court cases which have shaped the current situation, and a potential solution and course of action.
